Step 2: From the top left corner, select the Edit menu. Mac record screen and audio is a practical choice, especially for users who have upgraded to Mojave. Step 1: Launch QuickTime from the program menu. Learn how to screen record on Mac with sound using the native app as well as QuickTime screen recording with audio. To solve this, follow the steps as given below. You can't change this setting when a screen recording is active. This will lead to poor file rendering, hence the absence of sound. Usually, you'll see either None or your Mac's internal hardware, but if you have a USB mic connected, you can choose that, too. Microphone: Choose the sound input, if any, for screen recordings.Timer: Set a delay between when you press a capture button and when the capture occurs.Use Other Location to browse to a specific folder. Save To: Choose an option from the list to tell macOS where to save your screenshots and captures. This is just another, albeit less expensive, avenue to solve your problem. The Options menu to the right of the capture buttons contains a variety of settings. Make no mistake, Audio Hijack is good software. So, for $35, you get an audio interface that has many more uses than the software can provide (for example, I can hook my Bose Wave Radio to my iMac now) whereas the software doesn't allow you to do that. The USB Audio device is $30 and if you have to buy an RCA audio cable, you're looking at another $5. Now, when I say significantly less, Audio Hijack is about $50 if buying the new license. In quicktime, I just selected the USB device as my input: You don't need anything fancy or expensive, just a standard RCA audio cable. When I needed to record a screencast with the audio from the application, I just used an RCA audio cable I had laying in a drawer similar to the image below. I use the Behringer UCA202 Audio Interface with my iMac. You could use Audio Hijack (per Tetsujin) to capture the audio as needed or you could use a USB audio adapter to do it for significantly less. ![]()
